About Chiropractic Care
What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care focuses on detecting and treating restricted joints, particularly in the spine, but also in the extremities. It aims to improve mobility and decrease pain without medications or surgery by performing adjustments to the joints. Joint restrictions can cause localized pain, but can also lead to conditions such as headaches, arthritis, nerve irritation, and disc problems.
Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Yes, chiropractic is considered very safe when performed by professionals. The most common side effect is usually mild, temporary soreness after your first visit. We gather a comprehensive history and conduct a thorough assessment to ensure treatment is appropriate for you.
Appointments & Visits
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your initial appointment begins with a discussion of your current issues and any relevant information from your intake paperwork. A comprehensive evaluation is then performed. We will explain our findings, discuss any concerns, and outline a personalized treatment plan including home exercise. This visit usually lasts 45-60 minutes.
Will I be treated on my first visit?
In the vast majority of cases treatment is performed on the first visit. There are situations where x-rays may be needed prior to receiving spinal adjustments, but this is uncommon. If adjustments are not able to be performed on the first visit, other treatments will be used to help alleviate your symptoms.
How long does a typical follow-up visit last?
Follow-up visits are shorter, often 15-30 minutes, depending upon your needs. They may include a combination of adjustments, dry needling, home exercise instruction, and advice on lifestyle changes.
What if I don’t want to be “cracked” during my visit?
This is usually not a problem as we pride ourselves on having many different therapies we can utilize that don’t involve traditional adjustments. We will want to hear your concerns, and can then discuss alternative treatment options for you.
How often should I see a chiropractor?
This varies by the individual. Some conditions may require 2 visits per week, others 1 visit per week. In certain situations, treatment may only require a few visits and then management at home with home exercises and temporary modification of activities and lifestyle changes.
Insurance and Billing
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance. Our fees are listed on our website and are straight-forward and transparent (they may be found here). There are no surprise bills that are all too common when dealing with insurance visits. Depending upon your individual insurance plan (deductible, copay, etc.), you may actually pay less in our office than you otherwise would when services are billed through your insurance.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept credit cards, cash, checks, and HSA cards.
Can I submit a claim to my own insurance to get reimbursement?
Yes. We can provide you with a superbill (itemized receipt) and other pertinent information for you to attempt a partial reimbursement from your insurance company. It is important to note, however, that this does NOT guarantee reimbursement. This is a complicated topic so please reach out to us with any questions you may have.
General Questions
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No referral is needed to see a chiropractor. We may refer you to your primary care provider, a physical therapist, or another specialist if we feel necessary to do so during the course of your treatment.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is best, like athletic wear. Restrictive items like jeans and belts can make examination and adjustments more difficult, but we will make it work!
